A customized study plan is essential to successfully prepare for the NAPLEX. The sample study schedules below can be used to create your study plan and can be adapted, as needed, to fit your needs.

6-12 Month Study Review Schedule
This downloadable blank Excel template has a color-coded drop-down topic list to make filling in your study schedule easy. You can create a 12-month schedule or adapt the duration (e.g., to 6 months or 3 months), as needed. Be sure to include all topics so none are skipped. Use the Topics tab on the Excel form to check off topics as they are completed.

Example 1: Preparing for an Inpatient Hospital Rotation
Jessica is starting her first APPE rotation in a hospital setting. She will be preparing sterile products. She chooses to complete calculations during her first week to make sure she has good foundational knowledge. Tuesdays are expected to be busy days because she has normal rotation duties and grand rounds. She works every other weekend at a local pharmacy. She chooses to complete some yellow and red topics on the weekends, to make the weekdays less stressful.

She plans to complete the critical care and emergency preparedness topics and test banks prior to starting the rotation. Her preceptor has assigned her a presentation on seizures. She continues to work every other weekend.

The pre-populated Excel template has a daily (6-8 hour) schedule that spans 45 days. The topics can be changed, as desired, by using the color-coded drop-down menu. Use the Topics tab on the Excel form to keep track and check off topics as they are completed. The number of days can be extended or shortened, if needed.
